About Us

The missionary work that led up to the beginning of Rose Hill is credited to Mr. Charlie Berry. It was about 1892 that Mr. Berry traveled throughout the Franklin County area advocating for the formation of the church. Ironically, he never became a member of the church he fought so hard to build. "Rose Hill" got it's name from the beautiful spring of 1894 and the abundant amount of roses God brought to the area.

Founded only 31 years after the Emancipation Proclamation and in one of the worst economic depressions in U.S. history, a white man divinely led by God named Art Dishroom gave the founders (former slaves and the children of former slaves) the land in which Rose Hill was built.

Although "freed," the former slaves still suffered terrible injustices and were segregated to be kept "in their place." Even so-called Christians wouldn't let black people into their churches. Through the will and overwhelming power of God, our forefathers of Rose Hill overcame immense obstacles to continue to share the love and salvation of Our Lord. God has protected, inspired, and prevailed at Rose Hill from the very beginning.
